It seems that every year around February, I get down. Indiana winters can be long and dreary. I’ve found that watching movies that take place in the summer help me survive until the flowers bloom again in the spring. These movies might not be the deepest, most thought-provoking movies, but they will make you smile.
These are my go to beat-the-blues movies…
1. Without a Paddle: This is one of my favorites. While it may not be the highest quality movie, it never fails to bring me out of a funk. Not only is it a feel-good movie, but the mountains and trees make you feel like you are hiking in the summer without actually having to leave your couch.
2. Easy A: Again, one of my favorites. It has an 80’s movie feel and takes place in Ojai, California. The sun is always shining, and you will definitely laugh at this one!
3. Fired Up!: This one takes place at a summer cheerleading camp and is hilarious. Almost every single scene takes place outside in the summer sun.
4. Dukes of Hazzard: Another summer movie that takes place mostly outside and will make you laugh…noticing a pattern?
5. Tangled: This one has gotten me through some rough times: high school, moving into my first apartment in college, and so much more. It’s a great story, and the animation is beautiful.
6. A Cinderella Story: This one is about a high schooler in California as well. Even though its been awhile since I was in high school, this movie still makes me smile!
7. Penelope: This is an adorable story with incredible music. The kiss at the end will give you all the feels.
8. Moana: If you want to feel like you are on a tropical island, watch this movie. The animation is incredibly realistic, and the songs are amazing. You won’t be able to stop singing “Shiny.”
9. You’ve Got Mail: This is one of my favorite love stories. It actually doesn’t take place in the summer; it starts in the fall and ends in the spring. This movie is magical and helps me chill out when I’m stressed. Plus, Kathleen has my dream job: owning a children’s book store!
10. Beauty and the Beast: Emma Watson is wonderful in everything, but especially as Belle. This movie is beautiful and magical and will make you feel like a kid again, which we could all benefit from.
I hope you enjoy these movies as much as I do! Spring is just around the corner, so hang in there!
