A Few of My Favorite (Beauty) Things…

by Sydney Rae

I don’t wear makeup everyday, but when I do, I want it to look good. I am very picky about my beauty products and have tried just about everything. With my mom being a makeup artist, I have tested out many makeup brands and many products. Some of these products are a little pricey, but I honestly think they are worth it.

These are a few of my favorite beauty products…

1. Dior Lip Glow in 0001 Pink: I love this stuff! It reacts with the chemistry of your lips to give you a natural look. Not only does the color look perfect on just about everyone, but it also feels great on your lips. It feels more like moisturizing chapstick than lipstick. I also love that you don’t have to look in a mirror while you apply it. Its almost impossible to mess up, and every time I wear it, I get compliments! Its about $30, but I don’t wear anything else, so for me, its worth it.

2. YSL Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Le Teint Radiance Awakening Foundation: It seems like nearly everything makes me break out, but this foundation doesn’t. Its light, but gives incredible coverage. It is pricey at $54, but I truly think it is worth it. I have tried a few other foundations hoping to find something cheaper, but I always go back to it because its amazing.

3. MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation: If you want something with light coverage, this stuff is awesome. Plus, it helps control oil. I struggled with extremely oily skin in high school and this foundation was a life saver! It is a little cheaper than the YSL foundation at $30.

4. L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara: I’ve tried a lot of mascaras, but this is my favorite! It does it all. It makes your lashes both long and full. Plus, its only $10!

5. MAC Eyeshadow: I’ve tried a lot of eyeshadow brands, and they are not created equally. Some get powder all over your face , some are difficult to spread evenly, and some just plain suck. I love MAC eyeshadow and have a few palettes (I’ve been blessed to have a mother that worked at MAC and gets discounts). The best part is that you can make custom palettes. You can buy one that holds 2, 4, or 15 shadows and fill it with colors you personally selected. I would much rather have a smaller palette of my favorite colors than a huge palette that has fifty colors I don’t even use! I personally use the palettes that hold 4 and 15 shadows. I use the small palette for day to day use, and the large palette holds my fun colors. The great part is that you can choose what works for you based on your budget and lifestyle.

6. Aveeno Skin Relief Body WashThis stuff is fantastic. I get horribly dry skin in the winter, and it keeps that under control for me. Also, it doesn’t have any harmful ingredients in it, so you can feel good about using it!

7. Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Nourishing Body Oil: I love this stuff! I recently went through all my beauty products to see how healthy they were for me. The body oil I was previously using had all kinds of harmful ingredients, but this stuff is safe. It also smells like lemons which I love. I personally like to use oil rather than lotion because I think its works better. I use it as soon as a I get out of the shower. Plus, its only $7!

8. Tarteist Double Take Eyeliner: Again, I’ve tried a lot of eyeliners and this is by far my favorite. It has two ends: a gel end and a liquid end. I love to use the liquid on my top lid and the gel under my eyes. If you want the perfect winged eyeliner, this is the way to go. It’s $24, but it will last you a long time.

9. Lanolips: Holy crap, this stuff has saved my life. I bought one for every woman in my family at Christmas. Its similar to Aquafor and Vaseline, but is healthier for you and works even better. I use it on my lips, cuticles, and dry skin patches. It really is wonderful. It is $17, but I seriously think its worth it. (Tip: You can order it from Nordstrom with free shipping!)

I’m all about quality over quantity. I would recommend choosing one of these products and allowing yourself to splurge a little. I would much rather have one Lanolips than a bunch of chapsticks that don’t work very well. I hope I’ve helped you find one of your new favorite products!
